Precipitator Microprocessor Rapper Control (MRC)

MRC Rapper Control. Proper control of the rapping system will greatly enhance precipitator performance. The intensity of the rapping blow, the interval between raps and the duration of the vibrator on-time will have a profound effect on energization and minimize the effects of dust re-entrainment.

The Hamon Research-Cottrell Microprocessor Rapper/Vibrator Control (MRC) is an advanced system designed by precipitator professionals specifically to provide the control required for this performance. The controller is easily programmed for rapper cycle time, intensity repetitive raps and a host of other operating parameters.

MRC Control Cabinet

The MRC can be provided in its own freestanding cabinet with output cards mounted in a card cage. The microprocessor module is mounted on the cabinet door for ease of programming. Existing rapper cabinets can be provided with an MRC backfit package that can eliminate the need to disturb exiting precipitator wiring.

All rapper control parameters can be programmed from the face mounted microprocessor unit. It is, however, equipped with an RS485 data communication port. The port can link the MRC to computer or DCS systems for external monitoring and control.

MRC Features include:

  • Non-volatile EEPROM memory. Power interruptions of any duration will not affect MRC operation.
  • Virtually infinite adjustment of the cycle clock and wait cycle clock times.
  • Individual, group or complete system intensity adjustment capabilities.
  • Multiple program storage. Four distinct programs can be saved in memory for use at any time. This allows for simple program changes to accommodate process or operating condition variations.
  • Power Off Rapping. This feature automatically reduces T-R power in the cell to be rapped and returns power when rapping is complete.
  • Face mounted programming module. All operating values and programmed parameters are displayed on demand on a seven segment LED display.
  • Malfunctioning rappers are automatically removed from service and an alarm code is displayed.
  • Security code is required to make program changes.

Micro-Tapper Plus. The Micro-Tapper Plus rapper control supplied with many Buell/GEESI precipitators employs microprocessor based solid state electronics. The operator interface device uses a 4 line, 20 character display to provide information. The handheld keypad with 12 dedicated function keys enables the operator to input the control parameters.

Micro-Tapper features include:
  • Factory tested for 100 hours to insure high reliability
  • Malfunctioning rappers are automatically removed from service
  • Individual rapper intensity and timing adjustments
  • Local and remote operator interface capability
  • On-board LED display for simplified diagnostics
  • Rapper fault detection, alarm and data storage
