Performance Analysis
Diagnostic of the current operating conditions of your air pollution control device, a performance analysis gives you the
certainty your plant is compliant with regulations and allows you to anticipate the impact of any process changes on the
emissions. |

Evaluation of Fuel Switching
The performance of Electrostatic Precipitators (ESPs) is directly impacted by the chemistry of the coal being fired.
Very often coal changes move in the direction of reducing coal sulfur content to lower exit gas SOx emissions.
This reduction in coal sulfur content generally has an adverse impact on fly ash resistivity and, in turn, ESP performance.
Hamon Research-Cottrell can provide evaluations of the impact of various coals on ESP performance. Such evaluation allows
utilities to select coals appropriate to the design intent of the existing ESP equipment.
Expert Witness
Events can occur in the use of Electrostatic Precipitators (ESPs), which result in technical or legal disputes. These
disputes could be between ESP users and ESP vendors, or between ESP users and State agencies. Hamon Research-Cottrell
can provide expert witness services to help resolve such conflicts. Acting in the capacity of a third party consultant,
we can often resolve issues at lower cost than that resulting from full legal action.
Structural Analysis
Hamon Research Cottrell will evaluate the impact that changing operating conditions will have on existing equipment.
This effort can be as straight forward as relating the new conditions to the original design conditions. It can often
involve inspecting and testing the structural condition of an older unit and evaluating its actual structural state
in relation to current or planned operating conditions. HRC's archives contain the original designs of most Research
Cottrell and Buell/GEESI equipment.
Unfortunately there are occasional explosions or other catastrophic events affecting air pollution control equipment.
HRC's structural engineers can provide recommendations on safely dealing with the failure and can provide forensic
analysis as to why some failures occurred.
Technical Phone Assistance
More often than not, problems can be resolved without the need of a field service visit. Hamon Research-Cottrell's valued
customers know that we are just a phone call away. If a need for resolution of a technical problem on your air pollution
equipment develops, or you're simply looking for advice or information, please call Hamon Research-Cottrell's service group
at 1-800-722-3046 (US toll free) or at 908-333-2029.
Title V Power Monitoring Studies
Recent governmental monitoring legislation has required that Electrostatic Precipitators be continuously monitored to ensure
compliance with particulate emissions standards. HRC can provide power-monitoring guidelines suitable for inclusion in
submittals to the State. These "Title V" power monitoring reports are much more economical that either expensive computer
models or expensive continuous particulate monitors. |
